Four-time MHSAA Track-and-Field State Champion Demi Washington signs her letter of intent with the University of Alabama.

Demi Washington has spent the last five years accumulating track-and-field championships, accolades and awards.

On Nov. 9, she secured her sprinting future by signing a letter of intent with the University of Alabama.

“I’m really excited about joining the team at Bama,” Washington said. “It felt like home there and that the coaching staff is really interested in bettering me as a sprinter.”

The four-time MHSAA State Track-and-Field champion looks to add her talents to the Crimson Tide’s already competitive indoor and outdoor teams.

“Demi is an exceptional talent with a great up-swing,” Clinton Head Track-and-Field coach Johnathan Perkins said. “We are extremely happy for her and her future.”

Washington was named the 2016 MS Prep “Best of the Best”, 2016 Clarion-Ledger Top Performer, 2014 Miss Clarion-Ledger and the 2014 Mississippi Female Gatorade Athlete of the Year as well as a five-time All-American, four-time member of the All-State Track team and recipient of the 2013 “Pop” Star Award.

Washington set a school record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.7 seconds. Her personal best in the 200-meter is 24.06 seconds.

Under Head Track-and-Field Coach Dan Waters and Sprint Coach Dion Miller, the University of Alabama’s Women’s team finished sixth in outdoor competition and eighth in indoor competition.

Demi is involved as a student leader the Fellowship of Christian Athletes as well as Anchor Club.

She is the daughter of Ben and Elizabeth Washington.
