Leadership on the court goes beyond stats. Leadership on the court extends to the locker room and to the team’s mentality.
Senior Captain Mychala Linzy has been that leader for the Lady Arrows, and she will look to extend those qualities her freshman year of college.
On March 23, Mychala Linzy signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Pearl River Community College in Poplarville, Miss.
“The campus at Pearl River is very nice, and I can relate to the coaches really well,” Linzy said. “They can help me recognize my weaknesses and what I need to work on.”
Linzy led the Lady Arrows in scoring her senior season, racking up 380 points and averaging 13.1 points per game. She drained 43 3-pointers her senior year.
“Mychala is not only a great player on the floor,” Lady Arrows Head Basketball Coach Michael Coleman said. “but she’s got great leadership skills. Without her, there’s no way we would have gone 23-6, and that’s not just because of her playing ability, but because of her leadership abilities as well. On defense, she’s great at drawing charges and on offense, she’s unselfish.”
Linzy also led the Lady Arrows in assists, totaling 88 assists on the year and averaging 3 assist per game.
Defensively, Linzy led the team in steals with 92 on the season.
“Being part of a diligent program at the junior college level, where she can put in the right amount of time will allow for two more years of maturity,” Coach Coleman added. “I have no doubt this will allow her to continue on to a great four-year school.”
Linzy and fellow Lady Arrow Shania Wright will both play for the Lady Wildcats at PRCC.
Mychala Linzy is the daughter of Latasha and Stanley Brent and Michael Linzy.
