Jayda Eckford made a name for herself in the track & field circles, literally passing by her competition and setting records along the way.
On Thursday, April 12, Jayda Eckford signed a letter of intent with Ole Miss to sprint for Lady Rebels Track & Field.
“I chose Ole Miss because the coaches reached out to me, visiting the school and even visiting my house,” Eckford said. “They have a really good track program. The ladies on the team are really sweet, and I could tell that everyone on the team at practice works and they try to get better everyday.”
She said the education she will receive was a determining factor as well. “The criminal justice program at Ole Miss will also allow me to enter into the working world prepared for the future and prepared to work ,” Eckford said.
A two-time MHSAA 6A State champion, Jayda has the best 200 meter time in the state at 24.10 seconds and the fastest 400 meter time in the state at 56.07 seconds.
“Jayda is different, very different” Clinton’s Track & Field head coach Johnathan Perkins said. “She has one mode, and that’s fast. She will do great in college because she has a great work ethic and awesome family support.”
Jayda Eckford is an honor student and is the daughter of Jamie and Nicole Eckford.
