Arrow Athletics Update: Arrow Teams Add Ws to 2018 Records

After winning their season opener against the South Panola Tigers, the Arrow Football team (2-0) took down the Vicksburg Gators 48-0 during the 2018 home opener at Arrow Field.

Quarterback Hunter Hulsey threw for three TDs, finding Tyree Carr, Desmyn Baker and Greg Evans in the air.

Senior running back Greg Evans rushed for the first score of the night and another to open the second half, leading the team with three TDs on the night.

Sophomore Torrey Johnson crossed the goal line, earning his first TD of his varsity career.

Senior kicker Tucker Barefoot made two field goals, the first being a 44-yarder. He also went 5 for 5 on the night with PATs.

Clinton travels to Brandon High School Friday night to take on the Bulldogs. This will be the first trip to Brandon’s new field for the Arrows.

Kick off is scheduled for 7:00 PM, and Arrow fans can purchase a digital ticket beforehand through the Clinton Arrow Link through GoFan.



The Lady Arrow Volleyball team (7-2; 1-0) won their first District match of the season after traveling to Warren Central to face the Lady Vikings.

Clinton took down Warren Central in three straight sets, not allowing the Lady Vikings more than 20 points in each set. The match scored 25-14; 25-19, 25-15.

Senior Mary Claire Ford had 5 aces and 15 digs.

Fellow Senior Logan Parker led the team with 18 digs.

Senior Krystal Hulsey and Freshman Mallory Morris both had 20 assists for the Lady Arrows.

Eighth grader Lakin Laurendine racked up 3 solo blocks.

The lady Arrows host Greenville on Thursday, Aug. 30 in the second district match of the season.



The Clinton Arrow Swim Team hosted the 2018 Clinton Invitational at the University Wellness Center in Flowood, Miss.

Both the Girls and Boys teams came in fourth place in the team categories.

Senior Timothy Morrow placed first in the Boys 100-yard butterfly and Boys 100-yard backstroke.

Morrow as well as Crson Dowd, Reginald Moore and Cody Swann placed second in the Boys 200-yard Freestyle relay.

The Clinton Arrow Swim Team will compete in their next meet Monday, Sept. 10 at the University Wellness Center in Flowood.


Slow Pitch

The Lady Arrows Slow Pitch Softball team faced Florence on Thursday, Aug. 23 and earned their first win of the season defeating the Lady Eagles 8-2.

The Lady Arrows travel to Brookhaven Thursday, Aug. 30 to face the Lady Panthers.


Cross Country

The Clinton Arrow Cross Country team hosted the Clinton Short Course Race on Tuesday, Aug. 28.

Both the Girls and Boys teams won the meet, with several Arrows finishing near the top of the finishers.

Clinton’s Shelby Dean won the girls’ short course race for the fifth year in a row with a time of 14:09.

Evelyn O’Dwyer placed second with a time of 15:12. Hannah Derrick, Mary Claire Ford, Hannah Jackson, Bria Carbo and Elizabeth Wilson placed in the top 20 for the girls.

Evan Carite came in second with a time of 11:56. Jordan Shannon, Martinez Bogan, Glyn Heath, Grant Heath and Jack Maloney placed in the top 20 for the boys.

The Clinton Arrows Cross Country Teams will compete in the JPS XC Challenge on Sept. 4 at Choctaw Trails.


Around the District

The Sumner Hill football team traveled to Northwest Rankin to face the Cougars and came home with a 35-7 win.

The CJHS football team hosted the Northwest Rankin Cougars at Arrow field, and like their 9th grade counterparts defeated the Cougars 42-8.

Both teams move to a 2-0 record.
